I engaged Guardian to add a conservatory to my house and replace the dining room doors. After taking out the existing doors and putting the conservatory structure up, I have not seen anyone from the company since, leaving me with a large gap where the old patio doors were, straight into the conservatory, with the new external doors not opening or closing properly as well as other less significant issues. I was told that everything would only take a day to resolve and was asked to pay most of the balance due for the entire work, which I did in good faith.
Despite numerous calls, messages, emails and letters finally threatening legal action, I had no response from the company and reluctantly lodged a small claim after taking legal advice and quotes from other tradespeople to resolve the issues. These were more significant than I had been led to believe with remediation costs from £3k to £15k. The court found in my favour with the wealth of evidence and a CCJ was issued. With no response from the company, I paid for the bailiffs to visit but without success. I have since discovered that the parent company went into liquidation although the company is still trading and I am still owed a substantial amount for the remediation work and court costs.
